Measuring performance of Generic COD tube tests
Introduction
The generic COD tube tests COD LR 150 GN and COD HR 1500 GN are designed by MACHEREY-NAGEL for the use in the DRB200 reactor and the photometers from HACH* (following the instructions from Method 8000) as a replacement of the test kits COD Digestion Vials Low Range and COD Digestion Vials High Range. For validation, comparative measurements of real samples using MACHEREY-NAGEL’s test kits and the original test kits from HACH* were carried out.
Results
In the low range, the samples were each measured twice with COD LR 150 GN (REF 985701) and HACH* COD Digestion Vials Low Range (Art. 2125825 / 2125815). In the high range, the samples were each measured twice with COD HR 1500 GN (REF 985702) and HACH* COD Digestion Vials High Range (Art. 2125925 / 2125915). The protocol for method 8000 from HACH* was strictly followed for each measurement.
The results are shown in the following figures:

Conclusion
Eight different real samples for each range were measured and the results were compared. Strictly following the protocol for the HACH* method 8000 the test kits from MACHEREY-NAGEL show a variation between test results of not more than 12 mg/L O2 in the low range and 50 mg/L in the high range and thus are comparable for many applications.
